While great rooms and open-concept design are not new in the world of residential architecture, interior architecture and design are embracing this part of the home like never before. Open-plan […]
At Sweebe Architecture we measure homes in feet, the steps they take and the journeys they go on
We design space for families to enjoy each other. To relish being a we.
We work with clients to help them understand their unique flow and family rhythm. We are infectiously curious. We relish figuring sight lines for toddler, homework nooks, teen hangs, entertaining space and functional kitchens.
We work across Northern New Jersey designing additions, ground-up new construction, remodeling interiors and full renovations. We always work within the historic context of the house, and the wider context of the neighborhood.
Our story is one of space, sequence and light. But most importantly, our story is about your story.
Kitchens are for prepping, cooking and cleaning. And cocktails, cupcake baking, dinner parties, homework, craft projects and family catch-ups. We help plan for every need.
Families grow, evolve and change. And they need space around them to do the same. We specialize in spatial planning and efficient, flexible interior layouts.
We design in tune with a family’s pulse. We place a premium on context. The context of a house within a neighborhood and also a home within the context of the family.
Our initial consultation focuses on listening. We know that the most thoughtful architectural plans come from really understanding our clients needs and interests. We want to hear your story. We also answer questions, help with worries, discuss likely construction budgets and outline timeframes.
During the design phase, we put to work all our listening and discovery. We work on interior layouts and spatial planning, including kitchens and baths. You will receive 2-dimensional views of the exterior. We can also provide 3-dimensional views of the interior and exterior in addition to renderings or sketches.
We provide certified, detailed drawings from which builders will provide an estimate and the town will issue the building permit. These follow state and local building code, and detail material performance requirements. We also provide structural engineering drawings –assessment of loads and design of wood framing, steel beams, concrete and masonry foundations.

Being dog approved is part of the job.
Mike helped me through every phase of the project. I renovated a 114 year old house with major structural issues. I did the general contracting myself and Mike was worth every penny. There were tricky spaces, and some tough decisions to make, but Mike was full of ideas, and forthcoming with his opinions about what he thought would work. The house came out amazing. We built a great report together over the course of the project, and I would recommend him to anyone looking to do an ambitious renovation project, even if you don’t know where to start.
We bought a house that had no curb appeal and needed a major makeover. The design was incredible. We now have a wraparound porch, which has neighbors knocking on our door to thank us for turning the house into such a beauty. Inside, on the first floor, we have an open design kitchen with huge island; in the living room, we added windows to brighten the rooms. On the upper floors, we added in a walk-in closet and large master bath, and took down some walls to create a large den/children’s play space. It was a pleasure working with Mike, he was always professional, courteous and receptive to our ideas. His vision for our house was impeccable.
We used Sweebe Architecture for plans for our 2 story addition and renovation and couldn’t be happier with the finished product. Mike was exceptionally easy to work with, patient with edits, as well as flexible with meeting and availability. We will continue to recommend Mike. Thank you for helping us create our dream home!
